Repair Acts – Who We Are

Repair Acts is an artist-led research and community programme based in the UK and Ireland. We work ocally, regionally and internationally on material cultures of repair and maintenance, care and healing.

Artist, researcher. Repair Acts, Creative Director Professor of Art, Media and Spatial Practice, Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton.

Felipe Schmidt Fonseca

Felipe Schmidt Fonseca

Research Associate Independent Researcher, community organiser and producer Felipe Schmidt Fonseca, is known for his work on electronic waste and reuse. Currently he is researching community repair practices through the Celebrating Repair Cultures, in Bristol (2026) and extending the Brazilian Repair Declaration. Felipe previously worked on participated Caring for Repairing Feile, Ireland (2022) and Tales of Care and Repair with Gambiologia (2020-2021).

Fred Paulino

Fred Paulino

Artist and co-founder of Gambiologia, Brazil Fred Paulino co-led Tales of Care and Repair (2020–21), developing Brazil’s first Repair Declaration and helping design and build the project website, which brought together more than 600 stories of everyday repair. In 2024, Gambiologia turned an old school bus into Hacklab Volante, a mobile art and workshop programme touring across Minas Gerais. In summer 2026, we joined their tour, to carry out research on their playful gambiarra style.

NØ SCHOOL

NØ SCHOOL

NØ SCHOOL, NEVERS NØ SCHOOL is an international summer school, held in Nevers, in Burgundy, aimed at students, artists, designers, makers, hackers, activists and educators who wish to further their skills and engage in critical research around the social and environmental impacts of information and communication technologies. Established in 2019, since its inception Repair Acts has regularly contributed to the programme.

Ravi Agarwal

Ravi Agarwal

Artist, curator, researcher Repair Acts, International Network (2018-); Co-Lead on TALES OF CARE AND REPAIR (2020-201) Founding Director Toxics Link Ravi Agarwal work explores nature, ecology and their futures through photography, film, text and installation. In the mid-1990s, Agarwal co-founded the environmental NGO Toxics Link, whose work addresses the relationship between toxic substances, waste, environmental health and environmental justice, with particular attention to vulnerable and marginalised communities. Ravi and Toxics Links, were partners from the beginning of Repair Acts, participating in the first meeting (2018-2019) and with Gambiologia, collaborated Tales of Care and Repair (2020-2021). We continue to work intersecting topics relating to electronic waste, art and ecology.

Laura Fogg-Rogers

Co-Chair Bristol Repair Coalition Professor Sustainability University of the West of England, Bristol Laura is Professor of Sustainability at UWE Bristol, working across engineering, sustainability and community engagement. Between 2023-24, she lead the MAKERS (2023-24) project at UWE, which focused on enhances belonging among diverse engineering students through sustainability and repair activities, whilst tackling the Climate and Ecological Emergency in partnership with local communities. As part of this project, Laura in collaboration with Kat Corbett, launched in a monthly university Repair Café and produced guide for universities on how to establish their own cafe. Alongside Kat and Teresa, Laura, co-chairs the Bristol Repair Coalition.

Co-Chair Bristol Repair Coalition Circular Economy and Waste Manager University of Bristol Before joining the University of Bristol, Kat worked on the Making & Knowledge Exchange for Repair & Sustainability (2023-4) at University of the West of England (UWE), Bristol. For a period of time, she also job shared, with Joanna Dainton, Head of Circular Economy, UWE Environment & Sustainability Team. Kat is passionate about community repair and changing institutional practices.

Alma Clavin

Researcher, Network Member (2018-) and Co-lead, Repair Acts, Ireland (2021-) University College Dublin Alma is a geographer, who research focuses on community engaged climate action research and transformative, place based and experiential learning. She is currently a Lecturer in Sustainability/Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), at the University of Galway. Prior to working in Galway, Alma, worked at University College Dublin, as part of the Cities, Governance and Sustainability team. While at UCD, she co-led the Repair Acts, Ireland programme, (2021-2023) focusing on developing community partnership and histories of local repair economies.
