Amanortey Kisseih, Artist, Accra/Vienna

Working with the narrative potential of digital media, film, and photography, Ghanaian artist Amanortey Kisseih is passionate about how such mediums help change mind-sets and behaviours. His work focuses on narrating the dreams and hopes of people living in difficult and dangerous situations and on the supports required to move beyond such precarious conditions.

Kisseih studied Fine Art (Painting) in Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi and photography in Vienna, Austria. Between 2016-17, he worked as a co-producer on the documentary ‘Welcome to Sodom’ (Blackbox Films), which focused on the lives of people living in one of the largest electronic waste sites in Ghana at Agbogbloshie, Accra. Within this role, he worked closely with people living and working on the site, understanding their daily rituals and lives he played a central role in understanding the ground-level situation from which the documentary emerges.

Kisseih grew up in a small rural village outside of Accra, he currently lives and works in Vienna, Austria.
